The Keswick Cyclo Sportive is a non competitive road cycle challenge ride. Held in conjunction with Keswick Mountain Festival, this is a brand new sportive taking in some challenging & spectacular lakeland passes. The main route comprises the passes of Whinlatter, Newlands & Honister each one climbed twice & from a different direction!

The Keswick Sportive offers 3 different courses:

COURSE DISTANCE ASCENT MAIN CLIMBS
6 Passes 105k 3140m Whinlatter, Newlands, Honister
4 Passes  90k 2670m Whinlatter, Newlands, Honister
2 Passes  46k 1290m Whinlatter, Newlands

Route 1: 105k/3140m

The main 105k route takes in a total of 6 passes in a figure of eight loop.  Route 2: 90k/2,670m

The 90k course takes in the same route over the passes of Whinlatter, Newlands, Honister, & Whinlatter. Instead of a further ascent of Newlands, you take a left turn at Stair heading along to Grange, before turning onto the the lakeshore road & back to the finish at Keswick.

Route 3: 46k/1,290m

This route comprises the climbs of Whinlatter & Newlands. Although a shorter version, the route includes two tough mountain passes with approx. 1,290m of ascent packed into 46k! Following the initial same course as routes 1 & 2 this is a superb route, firstly taking in the forested climb of Whinlatter Pass before heading along to Buttermere village via a stunning route along the shore of Crummock Water. This is followed by a steep ascent of Newlands Hause before a long sweeping descent to the hamlet of Stair. Passing through Swinside you now have Keswick in sight as you follow a scenic route along the base of Catbells & around Derwentwater. Turning left at Grange, this is where you deviate from the other routes & return to Keswick via the Lakeshore road.

A unique aspect of this sportive is that whatever route you choose to enter, the choice is yours to continue on a different route on the day. If for example, you have entered the Route 2 Challenge & are feeling particularly inspired whilst riding, then you can continue on & complete Route 3.
